Chief of Staff to the General Partner

About MetaProp

MetaProp is a New York-based venture capital firm investing in early and growth-stage companies at the intersection of technology and the built world. Since 2015, we’ve backed 100+ startups across four fund vintages, each of which is performing in the top quartile.

With deep customer connectivity, we back innovations that finance, insure, design, manage, measure, build, and power the world’s largest asset class. Our brand, network, and team gives us access to the best early-stage founders and the flexibility to back them before others recognize their brilliance, or later in their company building journeys.

Role Overview

Location: New York City
Type: Full-time
Reports to: Zak Schwarzman, General Partner
Start Date: Flexible, ideally Fall 2025

MetaProp is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and operationally-minded Chief of Staff to support and amplify the work of our General Partner, Zak Schwarzman, and the broader Investment Team. This is a high-trust, high-leverage, high-autonomy role designed to empower Zak and the investment team to focus on the highest-value activities while you architect and drive internal business operations.

While this is not an investor-track role, it offers a unique front-row seat to MetaProp’s full investment lifecycle and firm-building strategy. The ideal candidate is an operator, not an aspiring investor, looking to build institutional muscles and drive meaningful impact behind the scenes. This is an immersive “tour of duty” with deep exposure to all aspects of VC operations, fund management, and firm-building. Ideal tenure is 18–24 months, after which the individual may transition into another internal role or move on to their next career opportunity with unparalleled insight into how a top-tier VC firm functions.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Operations & BizOps Leadership

  • Build, maintain, and refine a comprehensive “map on a page” of investment team responsibilities, systems, and swim lanes.

  • Design and implement SOPs, KPIs, and frameworks to professionalize and scale investment operations.

  • Partner with Zak to prioritize and execute the firm’s bizops roadmap and institutional vision.

Investment Team Enablement

  • Improve and standardize investment processes, from deal flow management to diligence checklists, memos, and IC templates.

  • Project manage internal and external reporting: investor reports, fund modeling, and reserve planning.

  • Own the design and execution of internal communication rhythms — from weekly meetings to 1:1s — ensuring operational cadence, clarity, and follow-through across the investment team.

Special Projects & Systems Innovation

  • Lead high-priority special projects and deep operational rethinks — applying first-principles thinking to redesign core functions such as sourcing, diligence workflows, portfolio engagement, or internal reporting systems. These efforts may span individual processes or entire responsibility areas, and will require independent ownership from diagnosis through implementation.

  • Identify and mitigate key operational risks, including single points of failure.

  • Evaluate and integrate technology tools (CRM, fund modeling, communication, sourcing, and reporting platforms).

  • Lead firm-wide initiatives (e.g., BSC revamp, intern program redesign, vendor management frameworks).

Communication & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as Zak’s thought partner and sounding board.

  • Ensure high-quality prep and follow-through for all key meetings.

  • Act as connective tissue across MetaProp’s investment team and external partners (legal, tax, audit, admin).

  • Track and manage data across the firm’s CRM (Affinity), cloud storage, and modeling tools.

Candidate Profile

You Might Be a Fit If You:

  • Have 3–6 years of relevant professional experience in consulting, finance, operations, or a similarly rigorous, analytical environment. Backgrounds in management consulting, investment banking, or corporate strategy are especially valued for the structured thinking, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills they bring.

  • Are detail-obsessed with a high operational IQ and excellent project management skills.

  • Thrive in ambiguous environments and take initiative without waiting for permission.

  • Are a systems-thinker who enjoys building process, not just following it.

  • Have strong EQ and a knack for working behind the scenes to make others successful.

  • Understand (or want to understand) the mechanics of venture capital at an institutional level.

Bonus Points For:

  • Prior experience in VC, startups, finance, or consulting.

  • Fluency in tools like Affinity, Tactyc, PitchBook, Dropbox, and Google Workspace.

  • A background in operations, product, chief of staff work, or founder experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive change through influence, not authority.

What You'll Get

  • A front-row seat to all aspects of venture capital: sourcing, diligence, deal execution, fund strategy, portfolio management, and LP relations.

  • Direct access to the GPs’ thinking and strategic planning.

  • The opportunity to institutionalize a fast-growing firm during a key fund lifecycle.

  • Deep, day-to-day exposure to the founders, investors, and operators shaping the future of real estate technology, and a personal runway to leverage that access into your next chapter.

  • The satisfaction of building the machine that builds the firm.
